Where the scheduler sits
A common question is whether the scheduler conflicts with an existing WMS. Set out the layers and it does not.
ERP
Enterprise resources — decides what gets made.
MES
Execution — decides what this line does and when.
WMS
The warehouse — decides where goods sit and where they come from.
Scheduler (RCS)
The robots — decides which one goes where, by which route, and when it charges.
The upper three say “move A from here to there”; the scheduler works out how. They stack rather than compete, and connect through a defined interface for dispatch, status, query and cancellation.
