Sizing and specification
What a survey must bring back
Material and carriers
Types, unit weights, carrier type and size, ground clearance, pallet specification, overhang and offset centres of gravity, carrier material and colour.
Flow and takt
Trips per day, when the peak falls, distance per trip, pick and drop locations, and any hard cycle constraint.
Site
Aisle width at its narrowest, floor material and flatness, ramps and their gradient, gaps and steps, load capacity, grating or hollow raised floors, and the position and size of doors and lifts.
Environment
Temperature and humidity, dust, lighting and direct sun, mirrors and glass walls, cleanroom or explosion-proof requirements.
Network
Existing WiFi coverage and signal strength, seamless roaming, and whether a server position is available.
People and traffic
Foot traffic in the work area, forklifts and hand trolleys sharing the aisles, and whether zoning is possible.
Interfaces
Which equipment (conveyors, machines, lifts, doors) and which systems (WMS, MES, ERP) must be interfaced, and whether those interfaces will be opened.
